Our Fifth Annual Meeting was held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 9 AM at the Natures Inn at Bald Eagle State Park. The national Woodcock Limited was resurrected at this Meeting!! The Board is currently working on the logistics associated with the restart and further information regarding Woodcock Limited will be forthcoming over the next several months.
Seminars at the Meeting centered around woodcock habitat creation and enhancement. The featured presenter was U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Eastern Migratory Shore and Upland Game Bird Specialist, Biologist Tom Cooper, who co-chairs the federal Woodcock Task Force. Simply put, he oversees woodcock on a national level. Among his duties, Mr. Cooper helps to author the annual population status report on woodcock and organizes and participates in the annual wingbee. Also featured were PGC Biologist Lisa Williams who is the new Grouse/Woodcock Biologist in the Game Bird Section, Division of Game Management, and PGC Public Lands Habitat Section Chief, Bureau of Wildlife Habitat Management, Eric Miller. U.S. Fish and Wildlie Biologist Adam Smith talked about habitat work being done to benefit woodcock at Bald Eagle State Park and led a tour of that work. Attendees also received a free copy of the booklet, American Woodcock Habitat--Best Management Practices for the Central Appalachian Mountain Region (courtesy of WMI), which alone made the Meeting worth attending.
